FAQs

  • Our name means “valley of the torch” and comes from the Serrano tribe that first explored here. Pronounced WASS-wag-inn, our history goes back nearly 100 years, with our first summer camp held in 1933. Our iconic totem pole is a tribute to the Serrano legacy.

  • Archery, fencing, volleyball, swimming pool, arts & crafts, hiking, river play, campfire, games, karaoke, traverse rock wall, paintball, bb riflery, sledding & toboggan.

*Some activities available based on seasonality.

  • For summer camp and scout groups we have a 10pm curfew.
But for retreats, reunions, weddings, and parties–no cut off time! Keep your party and music going as late (or early) as your crew can handle it 🤠🪩

  • Cell service can be spotty–which frankly, we think is a good thing 😉

We do have Starlink for internet. While it works great in the common areas, it can be slow reaching some of our sleeping cabins, or if too many devices are on at once.

  • Our typical check-in time is 5pm. Checkout by 11am.
But nothing about Wasewagan is typical! We’re happy to be flexible if you need adjusted hours.

  • Have you been on the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland? Just kidding! It’s not thaaaat bad.

HWY 38 is a smooth ride, and you’ll make a left onto Glass Rd which CalTrans just finished paving. But the last ½ mile to camp can be… bumpy.

There are two creeks you’ll be driving through, and while a sedan or minivan can make it, you’ll probably be more comfortable in a truck, SUV, or 4WD. Try to carpool if possible!

Many of our retreats groups arrive in school buses or shuttles with no issues.

In winter, you may need snow chains. You can check the CalTrans website for the most up-to-date chain requirements.

  • Nope–we’re old school, baby! BYOBedding.
Bring a pillow, fitted sheet, sleeping bag and/or blanket. We recommend an extra blanket in winter.

  • Heated pool is available May 1st to September 30th

  • When we say Wasewagan is immersed in nature, we mean it. It’s not uncommon to find bear tracks across camp in the morning. You might see deer, more birds than you can name, and fish in the river.

  • Download our packing list here.

  • We have 12 cabins on property that can sleep anywhere from 4 to 22 people. Camp currently has sleeping accommodations for up to 120 people.

Depending on your group size and needs, we’ll help you determine which cabins will work best.

For wedding receptions, we can fit 175, but some of your guests would have to stay off site.

  • We can park about 20 cars directly on our grounds. For overflow parking, there are plenty of spots right before you turn to enter Wasewagan.

  • We are dog-friendly! We encourage you to keep your dog on a leash though as there is wildlife here, and lots of dense forest where your pup could get lost.

  • We have an outdoor propane fire pit available for guest use. Due to fire risk, no fire wood is allowed, and absolutely no real candles.

Testimonials

“Wasewagan Camp was an amazing venue for our wedding! We booked the place in September for our December wedding. The team was more than helpful with our wedding preparations. The camp is beautiful and was so peaceful for our special day. We were able to visit ahead of time to plan for decorations. The staff is so friendly and polite, and helped make our day so special. I would highly recommend this camp to anyone that’s getting married. Thank you so much for having us!”

“We brought our Girl Scout troop here and had a fantastic time. It was a huge plus for us tired leaders as all the activities and meals were led by the staff. We got to participate and enjoy all the programs with our scouts. The staff was nice, the lodgings were comfortable, and the surroundings beautiful. Our girls loved the archery, arts and crafts, fishing, fencing, hiking and more. Highly recommend for troops wanting a camp experience with all the tradition, but none of the hassle.”
